Gateway Youth Program

Gateway Youth Programs specializes in working with youth who are 5-17 years old and a high risk to develop conflict with their family, who may become or currently are involved with juvenile court, in need of help to succeed in school, or basic support to help youth communicate more effectively.

Services provided to youth and their families are crisis intervention, case management, advocacy with the schools and court, non-therapeutic counseling, respite care, life skills instruction, and referrals as needed or requested.

   

Thinking for a Change Program

The Thinking for a Change program is an integrated cognitive behavior change based program that serves 12-17 year old youth who have been referred from the Shelby County Juvenile Court.

Program Effects

  • Thinking for a Change program curriculum uses a combination of cognitive restructuring and social skills interventions.
  • The program will equip the youth with the knowledge, skills, and the ability to challenge their own beliefs, thoughts, and feelings. This will enable the youth to challenge their own thinking errors and correct them.
  • The Thinking for a Change Program consists of 22 lessons. The groups meet twice a week for an hour to allow ample time for each lesson to be covered.
  • During these group sessions the facilitators go over the homework with each youth and the information is discussed.
  • Each facilitator participated in a 32 hour intensive training.

The Program Teaches Youth

  • How to use active listening skills.
  • How and why to ask questions when communicating.
  • How to give appropriate feedback.
  • How our thinking controls how we act.
  • How to pay attention and recognize your thinking process and errors within.
  • How to recognize and understand your feelings (ANGER is not just rage or irritation).
  • How to deal with accusations.
  • Problem solving - The process.
  • How to evaluate situations and your thinking so the youth has more control over their choices.

After School Prevention Program

Darke, Miami and Shelby Counties
Gateway Youth Programs specializes in working with youth who are 5-17 years old and a high risk to develop conflict with their family, who may become or currently are involved with juvenile court, in need of help to succeed in school, or basic support to help youth communicate more effectively. Services provided to youth and their families are crisis intervention, case management, advocacy with the schools and court, non-therapeutic counseling, respite care, life skills instruction, and referrals as needed or requested.

Weekly groups focus on teaching skills in Decision making, Conflict Resolution, Anger Management, Stress Management, Organizational Skills, and Socialization Skills. Gateway’s goal is to help youth gain the skills necessary to deal with life’s many challenges.

Targets at-risk youth ages 7-17 and their families. The office is located at 116 East Third Street, Greenville, Ohio. Referrals are received from the Juvenile Court, social service agencies, Darke County Schools, parents or they are self-referred.

Miami County - 937.440.9595
Targets at-risk youth ages 7-17 and their families. The office is located at 1849 Towne Park Drive, Troy, Ohio. Referrals are received from the Juvenile Court, social service agencies, Miami County Schools, parents or they are self-referred.

Shelby County - 937.492.8225
Targets at-risk youth ages 7-17 and their families. The office is located at 702 South Main Avenue, Sidney, Ohio. Referrals are received from the Shelby County Department of Job and Family Services and the Shelby County Juvenile Court, social service agencies, Shelby County schools or they are self-referred.

Runaway and Homeless Youth Program

Gateway’s Runaway and Homeless Youth Program offers services to youth ages 7 - 17 and their families in Darke, Miami, and Shelby Counties.

The Runaway and Homeless Youth Program offers:

  • A 24-hour crisis hotline (1.800.351.7347) along with an individual available to answer calls during the day (937.548.8002)

  • A safe alternative to leaving home

  • Emergency housing for up to 21 days
  • Referrals to other community service agencies as needed or requested
  • Support for the youth and family
  • On-going case management
  • Non-therapeutic counseling to the youth and family
  • Confidentiality

The Runaway and Homeless Youth Program is designed to provide crisis intervention services for youths who are:

  • thinking of running away from home or who have run away from home
  • an alternative for parents who are one step away from removing the youth from their home
  • and to local service providers, law enforcement agencies, etc. who would like to offer at-risk youth and their families a safe alternative to leaving home

ACES - Achievement Center for Educational Success

Our programs are formed on the belief that positive youth development will occur when there is connection, inspiration, and motivation. Through a model that supports the social emotional needs of youth, the trained staff supports the youth’s ability to build healthy relationships, to learn in ways that work for them, and to realize a higher sense of self and achievement. Programs are available in Darke, Miami, and Shelby counties.

Loving Solutions Support Group

Gateway Youth Programs offers an Aftercare Support Group to parents who complete the Loving Solutions Project. Loving Solutions is part of the Parent Project program through the Shelby County Educational Service Center. The Loving Solutions program focuses on younger children ages 5-10 years old and their parents. The program is designed to help equip the families with various techniques and skills to improve there family environment.

Gateway Youth Programs provides the Aftercare Support Group which gives parents the opportunity to re-connect with each other and talk about the day to day difficulties they face with being a parent and implementing the new skills they learned through the Loving Solutions program. Aftercare Group and Services are provided for a period of five months with the option for the youth in these families to be enrolled in Gateway’s Afterschool Programs. The support Groups meet once a month for approximately 60 minutes.
